Tom/Harry – Voldemort/Harry

This category is referred often along fanfic circles as “Tomarry” or “Harrymort,” the same way that Snape/Harry and Snape/Lupin are referred to as Snarry and Snupin, reflectively.

My first foray into this world was the fic by Batsutousai called “Xerosis,” where Harry Potter goes back in time and redoes the world with the eventual help of Lord Voldemort.  Of course that fic will be on this list, but the fact that I even have enough to put into a list is extremely telling of how far I’ve come into this genre.

Likewise, I suppose that the Xerosis fic has permanently broken me for my choices in this field.  I prefer a Voldemort-Harry relationship that has some equality in the interactions between the two of them.  Of course, not all of them begin with this equality.  Respect for Harry–and for Voldemort–must be won.

This post is particularly important now, given that so many HP rec lists are so often full of broken links.  That said, you can always let me know if any of my links are broken by replying to the post that the broken link lives in.  Also, if you have any recs for any of my posts, feel free to make them.  I will attempt to read them and if I like them, they will be added to the appropriate list(s).

As to my opinion, this is one of the few stories (fan-fiction and otherwise) out there that I have ever read multiple times through in one sitting. I think I’ve reread this story at least 10 times now, if not twice that number. I get to the end of it and I go back to chapter 1 to read it again. I like it that much. It’s a do-over fic, but a far more awesome one that any I’ve ever read. For one thing, it’s funny despite a great deal of horror (especially in the beginning). And the relationship between Voldemort and Harry is largely the reason behind that humor. Now, if that’s not unexpected, I’m not sure I know what is.

Anywho. Read it or don’t, but don’t miss out just because my words have failed to properly convey how awesome this fic is.

I admit it.  I have a weakness for Daddy Snape; especially if he’s Daddy Snape to little Harry.  It’s just so cute.  Some authors are pretty good at writing them as father – son.  On the other hand, some authors make me wonder if they’ve ever seen a child, let alone been around one.  When I write kids, I write with my inner child at the forefront of my mind; staring out at everything, wide eyed in wonder.

It seems to work–at least according to the reviewers of those stories.
